No. It's not. It's an update.

EDIT: Also, this topic is for stuff that is too small for anything that would warrant a topic of it's own.

A random question, does the integration panel on WOTS work? I.e. it shows that you're logged in?

That's good. Now I can re-implement a feature that TCB vXI and XII, as well as WOTS2 were due to get. Changeable image viewers! :P

Danish ISPs having issues again? :P

Anyway, one of the people I'm buying some comics from on eBay is being stupid. I asked for an invoice on three comics to recalculate postage. Instead he simply changes it to be picked up in person. He's in Liverpool, while I'm in London.

I can't travel up there. That's stupid. I have full intent to pay, obviously, but paying £9.75 or £7.50 for postage on 3 comics is not going to happen. I feel that maybe he just didn't want to get up off his fucking arse and go to the post office to get new postage price.

So why do I get the feeling that sooner or later, I'll have to leave my first negative feedback?

Has anyone of you noticed a change in the type of paper used in the comics after the new logo was introduced? In the once i have bought it is like the paper is a bit thicker. More weight.

Yeah. I noticed that with Simpsons Comics #186.

Still beats the shit used in the UK comics.

When was the last time the owner of MagMyPic logged in? Two years ago according to the copyright info. It should NOT take seventeen minutes ant thirty four seconds to load a page with 48 images. Plus the site is crawling with explicit images which the site obviously states are not to be posted.

Competitive Minecraft is pretty fun. It really gets your heart pumping when you're near your goal.

I was in Dewtorids (http://twitch.tv/dewtroid) community day where players are selected at random from a mumble room. I got to play in all of them except one.

Attached is a screenie, of me about to raid the opponents train. There's a core inside of lava encased in obsidian. Your goal is to make that leak into the train. I got into the train, but there was some opponents in there defending it. So I was blown up by TNT.

Normally, I play defense, and fire arrows from afar but I was on the opponents side, so I figured I should play offense instead.

Sadly, my team lost that match, but I was so close! It could've almost been at least a draw!

Fun was had by all.

Littlefoot meets the Swan Princess (http://poohadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Littlefoot_Meets_The_Swan_Princess).
No, I am not kidding.
Quote
SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, Eugene Krabs, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, Kenny McCormick, Taran, Princess Eilonwy, Fflewddur Fflam, Gurgi, Orddu, Orgoch, and Orwen, The Flying Dutchman, Ali, Bron, Shorty, Mo, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, The Vultures (Buzzie, Flaps, Ziggy, and Dizzy), Jiminy Cricket, Zazu, Jesse Greenwood, Elvis, Willy the Whale, Randolph Johnson, Nadine, Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, The Penguins of Madagascar (Skipper, Kolwalski, Rico, and Private), The Goonies (Mikey Walsh, Brand Walsh, Mouth Devereaux, Data Wang, Chunk Cohen, Andy Carmichael, Stef Steinbrenner, and Sloth Fratelli), Scooby-Doo, Shaggy Rogers, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Rex, Woog, Elsa, Dweeb, Charlie Barkin, Itchy Itchiford, Ttark, Jack Skellington, Chanticleer, Carface, Killer, Oogie Boogie, Ichy and Dil, Pete, Ursula, Sheldon J. Plankton, Creeper, The Machine, and The Grand Duke of Owls guest star in this film.
Glen Greenwood and Annie Greenwood will make cameos during the scene where Odette and Derek have gotten married. However, they will make full guest appearances in Littlefoot's Adventures of Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
Despite their time-traveling bits offscreen, Littlefoot, Ducky, Petrie, Chomper, Guido, Shorty, SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, Taran, Gurgi, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, The Vultures (Buzzie, Flaps, Ziggy, and Dizzy), Jiminy Cricket, Zazu, Jesse Greenwood, Randolph Johnson, Alex, Marty, Skipper, Private, Mikey Walsh, Mouth Devereaux, Data Wang, Chunk Cohen, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy Rogers, Elsa, Dweeb, Charlie, Itchy, Jack Skellington, and Chanticleer will team up with Princess Odette while Cera, Spike, Ruby, Grandpa Longneck, Grandma Longneck, Ali, Bron, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, Eugene Krabs, Stan Marsh, Kenny McCormick, Princess Eilonwy, Fflewddur Flam, Orddu, Orgoch, Orwen, Donald Duck, Elvis, Nadine, Brand Walsh, Andy Carmichael, Stef Steinbrenner, Sloth Fratelli, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Rex, and Woog will team up with Prince Derek in this film.
Due to eleven villains guest starring in this film, it will be inspired by DisneyDaniel93's film Pooh's Adventures of 101 Dalmatians.
Willy and Mo will appear during the Swan Lake sequences.
SpongeBob and Patrick were originally planned to guest star in Bloom's Adventures of The Swan Princess, but RatiganRules once found out that Scroopfan3212311 was already planning to make a SpongeBob SquarePants crossover film with The Swan Princess, so he decided to cut the characters out of this film. However, when Scroopfan3212311 cancelled that film after Yru17 saw that LionKingRulezAgain1's film Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa's Adventures of The Swan Princess was removed from YouTube due to copyrights, the SpongeBob characters ended up guest starring in this film instead.
Unlike DisneyAnimeManiac's film Winnie the Pooh Meets The Swan Princess, this is an NTSC film with NTSC bits from The Land Before Time movies, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, The Black Cauldron, the Mickey Mouse movies, Space Jam, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, The Jungle Book 1 and 2, Pinocchio, Mickey's Christmas Carol, The Lion King 1 and 2, Free Willy 1-3, Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, The Goonies, the Scooby-Doo movies, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, the All Dogs Go to Heaven trilogy, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Rock-a-Doodle, and The Little Mermaid.
This film was requested by RatiganRules.
Littlefoot and his friends will see Jiminy Cricket again in the Disneyland version of Winnie The Pooh In Fantasmic!, Littlefoot's Adventures of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Littlefoot's Adventures of Pinocchio.
Jean-Bob, Speed, and Puffin will join Littlefoot and the gang in more Land Before Time crossover films as guest stars until they (alongside Whizzer) will become members of Littlefoot's team in Littlefoot's Adventures of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
John Leader, who narrated trailers and TV spots for the first seven Land Before Time sequels, a single TV spot for the theatrical release of The Land Before Time, a TV spot for the theatrical release for Free Willy (see Fox 5 commercials (July 1993) (Volume 106) for the TV spot), and the second version of the trailer for the 1998 home video release of The Black Cauldron, also narrated the behind-the-scenes trailer for the theatrical release of The Swan Princess.
Mark Elliot, known for narrating many Disney trailers and TV spots, also narrated the theatrical trailer for The Swan Princess.
Both Jason James Richter (who played Jesse in the first three Free Willy films) and Jack Palance (who voiced Rothbart in The Swan Princess) were featured in a 1994 film called Cops & Robbersons (although Jack Palance was the main actor of that film), which was released by TriStar Pictures, owned by Sony (which owns current home video rights for all three of The Swan Princess films). However, Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (which starred Jason James Richter as 14-year-old Jesse) was still in production when The Swan Princess was released in theaters.
Both The Lion King and The Swan Princess were released in theaters in 1994, the same year The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure was released directly on home video and the short=lived animated film-based TV series Free Willy was broadcast on ABC Saturday Mornings.
Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home was released in theaters in 1995, the same year The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving was released directly on home video, The Goonies was re-released on home video release, and both The Lion King and The Swan Princess were released on home video in 1995.
Both The Black Cauldron and The Swan Princess were directed by Richard Rich.
This film will be dedicated to Jack Palance (1919-2006), who voiced Rothbart, and Michelle Nicastro (1960-2010), who voiced Odette.
This film actually took place before the Disneyland version of Winnie The Pooh In Fantasmic!, which explains Littlefoot, Alex and the gang already knowing Jean-Bob, Speed, Puffin, and Rothbart.

Or you could look into diagnosing the problem and fixing it yourself.

Like I did when my H Drive went belly-up. I tried multiple options all ending in failure so I looked up Data Recovery companies, found a few, got some base template quotes, and I dropped it off at one this afternoon at Pall Mall.

Personal note, I want to use this quote:

GUMSHOE: Yeah, I was extremely shocked when I looked at my watch and found that I should be in the pub.

With my main computer telling me it may have a hard disk failure, i try to make as much of a backup as i can. And get an old computer up to date, if the worst should happen. ( It hasn't failed yet. There are probably great parts of the US where you can only get internet by satellite. And not everybody have a computer. So you would still have to have the old snail mail option.

He, he. "Fun" story in the news today.
A guy who works with computer stuff and such gets a request from a friend. His computer is apparently infected with a virus.
Computer guy sees there is a virus and try to remove it. The computer goes BSD and they end up reinstalling it all.
A few days later he is contacted by the police. Said computer has been used to make an illegal transfer of money while it was infected with virus. AND he has removing the evidence.
So he has to go to cord as a witness and explain all he has done.

Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing

Right. In my years, I've seen very few teachers admit that students can actually know better ways of doing the same thing. Each person has a different understanding and interpretation on anything.

In this case, an author doesn't need a reason say the curtains were blue, it's there to help describe the environment, nothing more. Similarly, it's like if I made a theme for SMF with blue colours that would indicate that I'm depressed, I could've did it because it looks good. :P

Too many of my devices are breaking. While waiting for my data to arrive yesterday I wanted to play some Final Fantasy X on my PS2, but I discovered that the up and left buttons on the D-Pad no longer functioned.

While I could use the analog sticks, I don't do that for when I'm inside menus, which is what alot of Final Fantasy games use for selecting attacks and abilities. :P

I've bought a new controller for it. Wireless this time. It's black so I'll need to create some sort of distinction between this new one and my black PS3 controller.

Each of the three controllers I have had some sort of distinction so I could tell the difference visually. Of the two black ones, one had a cable coming out of it while the other didn't. The third, a PS3 controller is blue which I use on my laptop for framegrabbing and playing PS1 emulated games. :P

Once I've cleared my room out, I plan on making a video showcasing my set ups. :P

Also one of the lecturers for two of my classes is a moron. So much of a moron:

- He felt like insulting my family. Claiming that I should change my name because he cant spell it correctly. My dad now wants to beat him up, and such an event will be enjoyed by me.
- Gloated that he has a PhD when a colleague of his does not in a friends feedback on an assignment.
- Agreed with a statement I made, but didn't change grades to accommodate for the situation. (in a team project, I was not given any tasks to do by the team leader, and when I asked for one, I was told that everything was under control, I get downgraded because of that, claiming "I didn't do enough" despite not being given any objectives to contribute to, I commented about the lack of communication, he agreed with me but didn't take it into account.)

Answer me this, if I'm not given any tasks to do, and when I ask for one, they claim that everything is under control, what can I do?

He has another annoying shtick that drives everyone nuts as well, where he says if stuff "makes any sense, I don't know" it got annoying, real fast.

It became a meme among us: http://memegenerator.net/indecisive-jodie

I noticed if a game is both X360 and PS3 then only X360 will have that sort of thing. I'm not sure if any games break the mold...
Strangely, that's actually quite true. There could be a number of reasons why. For example, since the X360 uses DVD while the PS3 uses Blu-Ray it could be that the data install extracts the data to the harddrive and decompresses it, which would naturally make load times quicker. While on the PS3 since it has much more space to work with doesn't have it's data compressed.

Metal Gear Solid 4 needs data installs because the game is so big. It was announced in 2008 that even a dual layered disc which offers fifty gig of data wasn't enough, and it had to be compressed.

And while reading some fan fic over some celestial topics, I got reading some wiki articles about natural satellites. For some reason, I've had a strange interest in astronomy. But it's more just about reading it, then actually practicing it, I don't have a telescope or anything.

Anyway, just a few days ago, Wednesday to be exact, a new moon around Pluto was discovered, P5. It was only a year ago, that the fourth, P4, was discovered.

Somethings going on around Pluto. A probe is scheduled to perform a fly-by, scheduled to occur in 2015. It'll also be studying the other four moons of Pluto, as well as Pluto itself...

Trophies + Metal Gear Solid 4 + Full Install Option = Win and much Frolicking with Mr. Playstation 3.

Save data from before the update to include trophies can't be used, so I gotta play through the entire game again... Not that's a bad thing.

I'm desparate for an outback tileset for RPG Maker VX Ace (Though a VX one will do, heck I could probably convert one for XP if it wasn't too big). I need giant tree(think Click Clock Wood), carnival/theme park, and Beanstalk Way tilesets as well. Heck a candyland tileset wouldn't hurt either.

It's a fact of life and like I said, forums in some communities, such as the Simpsons has died out because of the likes of Facebook and Twitter, as well as the owners themselves were teenagers when they established their sites, so now, they're getting on with their lives.

I was 17 when I took over the reigns of TCB. So it's nearly coming on 10 years since I started this stuff. Even I've been thinking about shutting down WOTS despite being in the middle of developing WOTS4, so I can focus more on my role at Simple Machines and work on the new Customisation Website.

After the fiasco I had with the Global Moderator over my inoffensive use of the word "fuck" I had practically no desire to post on LMS anymore. I only helped them on the technical side because it's my job.

I believe other fandoms like Sonic and even Touhou are starting to suffer fron recent events. The new Simcity looks like it could kill its original fandom off for good(why would they remove highways, which have been a standard feature since SC2K)

I believe other fandoms like Sonic and even Touhou are starting to suffer fron recent events.
The fandoms themselves mostly remain the same, and most are still a part of them. But in recent years people don't login to forums and discuss them anymore because of the likes of Facebook and Twitter. They'd rather just blurt out whatever nonsense on there in 140 characters or less instead of having a meaningful discussion.

The new Simcity looks like it could kill its original fandom off for good(why would they remove highways, which have been a standard feature since SC2K)
Removing a feature like that is retool a franchise or try new ideas even if it means removal of features.

Compare the first two Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy II (that's the Japanese version by the way, not the American SNES title because that's Final Fantasy IV) it changed a lot of things from the first game. It removed EXP entirely. Each stat increases based on it's usage. There's nothing wrong with trying something different, sometimes it fails sometimes it doesn't.

Not sure i agree on closing a forum that actually did have some activity, but that is  Gustavo's call. Cant help thinking that people would have been better of coming here in the first place. Just a thought. (Somebody had to say it )

LMS was a very specialiced forum. Centered around one  single character. Maybe there was just not so much more to say. I, for one want to make many different kind of pictures. Don't want to be limited to only one character.
Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing

Makes you wonder what was going through Dags mind when he created the original LTS that Gustavo based his forum on.

A proper website on one character is one thing, but a forum on one character is entirely worthless.

TCB was far too limiting for my tastes, especially during the summer months. Which is why I decided to switch it for WOTS. It gave me more to focus on. It seems that I wasn't the only one to benefit from such a decision either.

They wanted to make fan site for Lisa. That in itself was quite a noble coerce. But there are only so many people with the same idea. And only so much you can post. Like i only posted when i was in the mood to make Lisa pictures. There is bound to be ups and downs for such a forum. A forum is very much its members, and people are in different stages of there lives, and it changes over time. I for one is most certainly not the same as i was ~8 years ago when i started watching The Simpsons.
Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing
Post by: Gary on September 20, 2012, 08:41:16 PM
Making a fan SITE about Lisa is one thing and something I'd support. But from what I saw, both Gustavo and Dag wanted credit for doing very little effort, basically being something very close to John Slater. (Who always wanted iPhones, iPods and consoles for nothing by getting people to go into congas basically you refer five people and they refer five people and you get a PS3 or something, Mike, Joe, Clive and I banned them on MT2, which caused Slater to throw a fit against me) the four of us believed that "if you want something, pay for it yourself to cheap fuck"

While they thought they were being very friendly, they were not. In fact, both were quite hardasses and annoying. Marco and that guy Gustavo got for his Global Moderator, I forget what his username was  then again it's not like I really care, the guy was a moron. None really knew how to run a forum. For most people, there's a difference of when to issue a warning and when not to. There were a few situations on that forum where I thought it wasn't warranted. Granted English isn't the first language for any of them, but they should have an understanding on the difference between a derogatory comment against someone and simple commentary of a situation.

I don't claim to be an expert, and have openly admitted to not knowing something, when I said I was nervous about becoming Lead Customiser, I was serious, I knew what I was going to be getting myself into. On the other hand Dag believes he's an expert when in fact he knows practically jack shit. He tries to give me bug reports about SMF, but doesn't actually tell me anything about how to reproduce it, or any details at all really. It's like he expected me to magically know what he was on about.

Basically, in my opinion, all four of them let the power fixes go to their head.

That could be for different reasons, Windows is actually regionless, so Japanese games will work on an Australian PC. The issues you're having can be for other reasons, typically, processor, graphics card, or operating system incompatibility.

Some freaky burglar has been breaking into my house over the last five years and stealing stuff. Just last night they broke in, knocked the new mouse cage over and stole a disc sheet containing Simcity 4 Deluxe disc 2 and a Touhou music disc that came with a manga I got off J-List. I believe this person has also stolen SC4's case and Disc 1(which is why I had Disc 2 in that sheet), two Gamecube memory cards and a USB drive with Lisa on it, all from under our noses (the USB was stolen in the afternoon).

Is there anything I can do about this?

EDIT: Argh, my brother found it on a shelf in the garage. Turns out it'd been placed there yesterday, probably while I was cleaning up or something. Doesn't help with finding SC4 though.

Windows 8 Get!

:P

This is from the Final Release of Windows 8 which comes out in two weeks, and before Wiimeiser can think of any lame theories on how I got it like thinking it was leaked or something, it's not as far as I'm aware, my copy is fully legitimate, with a valid license key. I got it through university, since the Microsoft DreamSpark service has Windows 8 available to download for students.

I have four keys for Windows 8 and four more Windows 7 keys. (I had already downloaded four keys for Windows 7, so now I have eight.)

It'll only look that way after a large amount of customisation.

The start menu is as we all know removed, but I'm using Classic Shell to bring it back. :P

I customised the orb too to look like how I had it in Windows Vista sort of. :P

Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing

Microsoft removed it because they claimed that noone uses the Start Menu anymore.

I call bullshit, come Windows 9, I'll bet that it'll be back.

Windows 8 isn't bad in general, but it is indeed similar to 7 what Vista was to XP.

Heh. Some made a lot of work making Windows look like a Mac.
Now people will do a lot of work making Windows look like ......Windows. :P

Microsoft put Giga bits of software in Windows to make it fit all kind of hard/soft- ware. So what would it take for them to make the start menu optional?
Oh, yes. Some marketing guys pride.
Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing
Post by: Gary on October 13, 2012, 07:26:42 PM
What MS tried with Win8 was to make it usable on everything, but prioritised for tablet and touch users. Which is why the start screen exists. The start screen just doesn't work with a keyboard and mouse, which is why I got rid of it by using Classic Shell to give me back the original start menu. It's a little small though, so I got to look into making it bigger.

Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing

What's funnier is that the part of the world map that's missing, was previously there, I had to cross those plains to get to the beach I'm landing on. For some reason the Lindblum region on Disc 1 likes to randomly glitch out like that. I need to download a new copy, because obviously for FF5 through 9, I emulate them using a PS3 controller to play.

If you want to know what I was doing, I went to the Burmecia area to get the Healing Shore Chocograph which grants the Blue Reef ability, then went back through Gizamaluke's Grotto to get two chocographs that required it. But because of the glitch, I skipped them, and went to Burmiecia to finish Disc 1. Thus I waited until Disc 2 to get them, which after the section with Princess Garnet, I'll get.

I refer to it as Minecraft because it's like how Minecraft terrain generation acts sometimes, particularly between versions.

Hey, can I get some outside entries on this survey for SM.org. :P

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=488439

Quote from: Simple Machines
Hello SMF users, admins and everyone else!

September 30th, 2013 will be the 10th Anniversary of the release of SMF 1.0 Beta 1 (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=1715.0) to charter members!

This is a HUGE milestone! Over the last 10 years, we have matured as a software and as a project. There have been periods of upheaval, but the project survived and has grown tremendously from the original (albeit impressive) piece of software released in 2003. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary, and possibly start a new tradition, Simple Machines is planning to arrange a large scale conference/convention event.

Unlike anything we have done previously, this event is planned to be of interest for ALL of the folks involved with SMF, whether they be project team members, admins of site(s) which run SMF or just interested users. In light of this, we have created a small ten minute survey (http://tinyurl.com/bvontuy) to find out what kinds of activities you would like to see at the conference as well as help narrow down a possible region on where we will host the event. The survey is hosted via Google and the information collected is anonymous (unless you identify yourself).

We apologize to our multi-lingual folks, but the survey is in English and only answers in English will be tallied.

We thank everyone who has been involved with SMF in the last nine years, and the upcoming tenth year, from the team members to every user of SMF.

Regards
Simple Machines

I downloaded a third party program and it'll schedule a backup for me instead at midnight, by copying the files and if not, it should catch up when I sign back onto my machine. I shouldn't have to pay another £237 to have a drive recovered again now that I have scheduled backups.

I've seen my fair share of shitty video games, such as Big Rigs Over the Road Racing, ET, Superman 64 and Sonic 06 to name a few. But a couple days ago, a new game was released called Final Fantasy: All the Bravest and it's one of the shittiest games I've seen to the point where you could say it offends me, and I haven't even bought the game and I still feel justified enough to say that.

In the game, which costs £2.50 for iPhone by the way, you swipe your finger across the screen to send your party to attack. That is it. You can't select which enemy, or which attack, that's done at random.

And the worst part about it is that when your characters die, in one hit I might add, you have to wait 3 minutes IN REAL TIME, for them to revive themselves. Given that you can have a party of 30 characters, that's an hour and a half. Sure, you could buy a Gold Hourglass to revive your entire party at once, thing is, THOSE COST SIXTY NINE PENCE for three. Which doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up especially when there are enemies that are programmed to kill your entire party before you can slide your finger fast enough.

You could also buy "Premium Characters" such as Terra from Final Fantasy VI, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII or Squall from Final Fantasy VIII, yes buy, they also cost 69p per character, but the worst part is you can't select which character you want they're picked at random. So I could want Squall or Auron but get a Pig or Vaan instead. Meaning that it could be possible that I'd end up buying all 35 to get the character I want.

Lastly there are three extra worlds you can buy from VII, X and XIII. Those cost as much as the entire game, £2.50.

Square Enix could've had a nice game here. But they insulted the fans with the money-grubbing tactics.

For some reason one of my folders has started displaying all its subfolders and prohibiting me from creating new folders within, and I can't figure out how to turn it off. It started when I resorted the files in a completely different folder on the same drive. Also, it seems to be specific to the one folder path... I fear the worst.
EDIT: It appears to be a side-effect of sorting, and when I sort by date it displays all files categorized by day. Again it only seems to affect the one folder...

EDIT2: I don't know whose idea it was to give the "My Documents" folder and the rest of the harddrive different file systems, but whoever did deserves to be eaten by Rumia while wearing the Double Pain badge and the All-Night mask for thinking it was a good idea.

No folder has different file systems from another. It's actually impossible for that to happen, otherwise, they'd be operating systems of their own.

They can however have different properties. In the example of my documents it generally has read-write permissions on Admins and the Owner.

When an issue arises such as that, check to make sure you have the appropriate permissions to do what you want to be able to do. Linux's permission system is easy to understand can be adapted for Windows in terms of human understanding. Of course, the programming between Windows and Linux is different.

No, by folder merging I meant a folder displaying the contents of its subfolders.

For those out there who were really interested in Simpsons Fantasy, this will get you going.

This is my announcement that I'm going to be running a contest for short fan fics based around select art pieces from my gallery.

The premise is simple, from the following list of pics I've posted write a small Simpsons Fantasy-esque fic surrounding it. It can be anything you want, it can feature Final Fantasy characters if you so wish.

There are ten pictures to chose from.

There aren't many rules, just that I don't want any pr0n style fics, or shipping.
Violence is okay, so long as it's presented as a boss battle.

You may submit the fics in script format (which I prefer) or prose format.

Note one submission per person, and include a link to the pic you're basing your fic on.

Now I'll bet you're wondering what the prize is.

It's a closed copy of the Abandoned Simpsons Fantasy game, fully playable on what we left off with. Basically, the entire rewritten storyline for the original storyline, by closed, I mean that you wont be able to edit it.

Leif and I will serve as judges.

You have until my 26th birthday of July 17th to submit your entries which should be emailed to me on GAZMANAFC@GMAIL.COM and be sure to include your DA username for reference.

Define, "more"

I didn't bother to watch the Nintendo Direct Presentation.

For reference, Final Fantasy versus XIII has been renamed into Final Fantasy XV. Pushing out whatever game will be Final Fantasy XVI from it's true slot, like Final Fantasy IX did to Final Fantasy X.

Final Fantasy XV will be appearing on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Kingdom Hearts III also gets the same treatment, also appearing on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX is still Playstation 3 exclusive. There is likely to be a Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX as well featuring Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. I really need to get myself a 3DS for Dream Drop Distance.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will maintain it's console exclusiveness to Sony, appearing on both Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.

He deactivated his account, but his drawings are still there. I don't know how DA works, weather you can remove them after deactivating the account. Or you have to remove the art before deactivating. It works on DA  But would look silly in a forum if posts went missing.
The ghost in the machine on DA is all the art that is posted on deactivated or banned accounts. ;-)
I don't know why Gustavo does it. It is just the way he is. Not knowing if he is coming or going.
Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing

Posts don't disappear from a forum. At least not without administrative action.

I've actually seen some people go far enough as to threaten legal action against administrators if they didn't remove their posts.

It's a grey area when it comes to it. Though most would be thrown out of court, the way I look at it is that you're responsible for what you say, and you're the one responsible for any shady shit that you say, but the administrator gets to determine if it stays or not as they own the content.

But really you'd have to be mental to threaten legal action against messages on a forum. You have to have a lot of disposable income for that to be viable.

Speaking of legal shenanigans, recently, the Putt-Putt Fun Center company sent a C&D letter to Notch, founder and CEO of Mojang AB. The creators of Minecraft.

http://imgur.com/a/molzg

In the letter they clearly don't understand the kind of game that Minecraft is and the fact that any and all content from within Minecraft is user generated, so Mojang has no control over the trademark use.

Notch tweeted those images with the comment "Putt-Putt being silly" it's even more hilarious that they included Don Mattrick who had recently left Microsoft's Xbox Division to join Zynga, whoever they are. :P

I find stupid companies trying to sue companies over user content hilarious.

Nope. He deactivated his account again. The guy is constantly deleting his account for some reason or another.

My guess, he gets some negative criticism, and cant take it so he runs off crying like a little girl somewhere.

A lot of people who posted on the LTS and LMS forums expected everything to be sunshine and rainbows, and apparently they all still do. So, naturally, most ended up in arguments with me because I'm too seated in reality for them.

They're all welcome to the Bongo Fan Forum obviously, but here they'd have to play by my rules. And one of them is that deletion of accounts is denied to everyone but me. So, they'd have to ask me really nicely. :P And even then, they'd have a 0.00000000001% chance that I'll actually do it.

Oh well. I don't take criticism too well either.

When you go into something creative, it's something that you need to be able to handle.

I know that GladiatorRomanus can't handle it for a fact since when I commented on one of his pics that creeped me out for looking more like the Flintstones than The Simpsons he asked Gustavo to delete both the pic and my response, only for when he completed the pic for me to give the same response.

The one thing I don't do often is back down.

Deleted accounts can make a forum look strange. People responding to posts that has been deleted.
What makes more sense is marking an account inactive. I miss an automatic function on DA that marks an account inactive when the user has not been logged in for over a year. ( You could have the option for the user to set that mark himself ) As it is now you sometimes run find accounts where the activity is hidden, and you don't know if it is active anymore.

Criticism is more or less automatic on DA. Lots of faves; then you are good. Few faves; then you have to think again. You have to be able to live with that.

Posts aren't deleted, but the user account is. The posts are simply labelled as being posted by a Guest. I don't like the way that looks, which is why deletion is removed.

Criticism is more or less automatic on DA. Lots of faves; then you are good. Few faves; then you have to think again. You have to be able to live with that.
On DA you can speak with your faves, or your comments. The comments hold more weight IMO. Some people can't handle that there will be people who wont like what they created and can be quite vocal about it. But so long as you can think about what they say and take their opinion as that and use it as feedback for the future then that's what's important.

The ones that can't take criticism are arrogant enough to believe that their creation/skills don't need improvement.

Gary, I know you're gonna hate me for saying this, but I think GameFAQs should exclude Final Fantasy characters from future Character Battles. They always win, and the current one has 27! When just one would be overkill with all the fangirls fawning over Cloud, even if he's not in it. On that note they should exclude Zelda characters as well. Link's won all but three! And maybe Mario characters as well. Give these franchises their own tournaments.

18 MBits/sec downstream is actually decent. Though, when doing those kinds of tests, you're best off using a server that's quite far away, so run a test using an American or British server.

What kind of network are you on, cable or DSL?

For reference my speed ranges from 30-50 MBits/sec downstream.

Also, they revealed the full type matchups for the new Fairy type. Can't say I'm surprised. People don't seem to understand why it's weak against Steel, but I say look it up (http://faeriemagick.com/faeries-likes-and-dislikes/), people!

It also turns out Kyouko (http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/File:ThGKKyouko.png) has (http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/File:ThGK_Bunbunmaru1.jpg) boobs (http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/File:Th13Kyouko.png), at least I think she does. (It looks like there's a shadow under her breasts...)

You are aware that dial-up speeds are the same anywhere right? America, Australia, Britain, Dial-up is ALWAYS 56kb/sec (and that's Kilobits, not kilobytes by the way)

I just noticed a huge coincidence:
Kyouko Kasodani first appeared in the second stage of Touhou 13, and she had recently converted to Buddhism. In The Simpsons, Lisa converted to Buddhism in She of Little Faith (http://), which is in Season 13 and has production code DABF02. Both also have a canon interest in music.

Not really, unfortunately. Although "Steal This Episode" sounds like they're pandering to the Megaupload Trial Riggers.

The only time I've heard about death rumours was for the movie, and even then that proved to be mooted.

A local newspaper reports; that The Sun News reports; Al Jean for saying that someone is going to die.

??? This local newspaper is sometimes bringing some news that other newspapers don't see fit to bring.  For better or worse.  ???

http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/udlandkendte/article2112440.ece

Quote

Det skriver The Sun News.

I've been getting annoying ads opening new tabs and forcibly redirecting me to other pages, mostly about Apple products and supermarket coupons. No malware removal programs can detect what's causing it. Should I just reformat my hard drive?

Oh for the love of god.

People are actually bidding upwards of £80 on a receipt for a PS4, that gets them £20 off because it's already been paid, they'll still need to pay the rest of the £329 for the console.

This has to be one of the dumbest things ever since you'd be better off just pre-ordering the console yourself...

people are morons.

I'll admit, I've considered importing a PS4 for myself, but at least that would be from a respectable source like Amazon.

Are there any other Simpsons fansites left besides this one? It appears the NHC is gone and Simpsons fanartists are being banned from DA left and right...
Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing
Post by: Gary on February 18, 2014, 08:02:56 PM
While you're right about the fact that there's not really any more Simpsons Fan Sites, and the old ones are dead. The owners of the old sites including myself, have gotten older since the sites were established mostly when they were in their teens and are now in their late-twenties to early thirties.

To put that into perspective, I took control of TCB in 2004 when I was 17. It's ten years on and I am now approaching 27. I've moved onto other projects, such as SMF, my dissertation and my Lets Plays, the only real reason I'm keeping WOTS around is because I use it as a testing ground. Neither Leif or I have actually produced any new content for it in about a year.

The NHC is still around, and I've not seen many fanartists get banned on DA, a majority deactivate their accounts for no real reason.

Yeah, it's hard to tell if they got banned or voluntarily deactivated their account. And I just haven't seen your NHC link for a while.

Yeah, it's hard to tell if they got banned or voluntarily deactivated their account.
The latter most of the time I'm guessing.

And I just haven't seen your NHC link for a while.
That just means that I removed it. It's unrelated.

I don't know what exactly happened. But people just don't make Simpsons websites anymore. Maybe they are all satisfied being on facebook or something.

You can't see on a DA page if it has been banned or deactivated anymore. So we don't really know whet has happened. But i haven't seen any signs that DA is baning Simpsons artists. Maybe just those who thinks Marge and Lisa are porn models.
I'd rather believe that some artists choose to make something else, and wants to start fresh on a new account.

True i haven't made any Simpsons pictures for a while. Don't know when; or if i will again. Like Gary said; it is the same for me. We all grow older. I have other things on my mind these days. Have had for a while.

Any news on who may be killed off? All I know is it's not a main family member, Mrs. Krabappel or one of Hank Azaria's characters, which narrows it down to Principal Skinner, Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, Lenny Leonard, Otto Mann, Rainier Wolfcastle, Nelson, and some others who I don't remember.

Also, would Graham get mad at me if I put the words "Lisa Squared" anywhere?
Title: Re: The Thread About Nothing
Post by: Gary on June 23, 2014, 03:36:07 PM
1. I don't think it'd be announced any time soon, and even not leading into the runup towards that episode. All we know is that neither Harry Shearer nor Hank Azaria voices the character. Since in the former's case it's an Emmy Award Winner and case of the latter he's outright said as much.

2. "Lisa Squared" isn't exactly a trademarked phrase, so he shouldn't depending on the context in which you refer to it.

He does seem to have issues with me discussing it, though. Was there some memo I missed?

Also, my throat's really irritated and Vicks isn't helping. I'll have to go to a doctor to get it checked out. If it's Petechia, I'll probably have to have surgery, which means no more velar consonants for me. I won't even be able to say my own name...

Also, The Sims 4 won't have Pools or Toddlers, to me, the latter is inexcusable, it'd be like abolishing the number 7. They haven't said why, but I bet it's so they can charge prices that would make Chudley (http://zeldawiki.org/Chudley%27s_Fine_Goods_and_Fancy_Trinkets_Emporium) seem like a thrift shop.

EDIT: FYI, I'm not saying it's Petechia, I'm saying it's possible.

EDIT2: It was my tonsils, again.

Yes.

But you are aware that these days, Metadata pretty much does nothing and it's not worth blocking. I doubt your ISP is blocking it in the slightest. DA is probably just down for you briefly.

And do me a favor, stop posting those kinds of posts, or else I'll start deleting them when I see them.

Has anyone of you noticed a change in the type of paper used in the comics after the new logo was introduced? In the once i have bought it is like the paper is a bit thicker. More weight.

1. Sorry to jump back to this but yeah it is really good quality paper, Bongo in the beginning used to be waaaay over priced for comics, now its a bargain when you think of the quality of paper they use.

2. Yes I am alive.

3. I also grew up and didn't realize two years had passed since I started working on my "Reign of the Bartmen fanfic. I have finally finished laying out all of the issues and should start pumping out the actual pages soon.

The only reason I'm keeping it around is for WOTS4. Once that's done, I don't really have any desire to continue beyond it. WOTS4 is my last hurrah.

I feel like I'm talking to myself.

As for me and The Simpsons i think i said it on DA:

Quote
Simpsons:
Sorry, but that time is over. I started out as a line tracer, but have somehow moved on to different things. There may be the ocational picture. I still have a bit of old stuff lying around, or some pictures modified for more artistic ideas, i may post one day. But i have no plans for any big return to The Simpsons.
So hope for the ocational if that is.

Gustavo; i never quit understood. And i left the Russian forum a long time ago. For obvious reasons i couldn't really follow what happened there. ;P

Could be fun if a bunch of people came around here. But i think the chances are ~0 And;.... Well..... Maybe i didn't care anyway. I don't know where the Simpsons community is now. And i am not going to go look for it.
